Motherwell boss Stuart Kettlewell says the decision to send Dan Casey off against Kilmarnock was one of the worst he has ever seen.

Motherwell took the lead through Liam Gordon in 17 minutes, when he reacted fastest after Casey's header had struck the left post.

That was cancelled out by Liam Polworth's strike in 74 minutes, four minutes before Casey was shown a straight red card for an altercation with Danny Armstrong.

And the Fir Park gaffer says it blows a massive hole in the argument to keep VAR in Scottish football, after referee Chris Graham was sent over to the monitor and STILL kept by his decision.

That is trending on social media world-wide, and Kettlewell reckons it's ridiculous, hinting that they will appeal the decision.

Kettlewell said: "I've used the words that I'm sick fed up with it, and I am.

"We're all seeing this the same way, I think it's completely unacceptable that in our game at the top flight that you brandish a red card for that incident.

"What compounds it is you get the opportunity to look at it again, you've been sent to the monitor, and I start to laugh at it, almost out of boredom, out of complete frustration.

"We've been told we've had three incidents wrong in our last five games, two penalties and one a head knock in the opposition box, but Dundee break and score a goal.

"I've said it until I'm blue in the face, I've accepted the explanations, the fault, but when I come to a decision like that, I've been involved in this game as a player, a coach and a manager for a long, long time, and that's easily up there in my top three of worst decisions that I've ever seen in a game I've been involved with - quite frankly in a game I've watched."

Kettlewell added: "There are a handful of referees in this country that get the two players together, say 'come on lads, let's get on with the game'.

"I was already given the heads-up by the Kilmarnock bench that this would be overturned, a yellow card and we would move on.

"It makes me massively question the use of technology in the game. If that was the case and there was no VAR the referee thinks he's seen an incident with Dan Casey and he would still be red carded.

"The level of inconsistency is quite incredible and my most enjoyable games have been in the cup where there has been no VAR.

"We've not discussed an appeal yet, but I'm sure you can work out that we're going down that route.

"Our media guys have told me that this is something that is trending, not just in Scotland, but world-wide. Fans of football will be looking at that and laughing and scoffing.

“I won’t make excuses but what I always look for is black and white, and the order of fairness, and if we’re looking at these things – especially that one today – and that’s the outcome of it, then I think we have a serious problem.

“I love football as much if not more than most, I dedicate my life to it, but I actually find myself completely scunnered, standing at the side of the park, when I start to see things like that.”
