It's been a dramatic week in La Liga as Dani Olmo's Barcelona future was thrown into doubt following the expiration of his temporary registration on December 31.

Barcelona signed the Spain international for £50m from RB Leipzig back in the summer, but the club's financial struggles meant they could only temporarily register him this season. It was hoped the sale of VIP seats at the Camp Nou to investors from Qatar and Dubai would solve their struggles, but they didn't get the green light from La Liga before the deadline.

Olmo, who has featured 15 times across all competitions for Barcelona this season, could have opted to end his contract and become a free agent. That would have had a catastrophic financial impact on the Catalan giants, but the player's intention is evidently to remain at Barcelona so he refused to do so.

Arsenal and Chelsea are among the Premier League clubs rumoured to hold an interest in Olmo should he become a free agent. Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo claim the Gunners were the first to express a desire to sign the player should the situation allow it.

A fresh report on Thursday from Sport claims the sale of the VIP seats has now officially been approved, which means they now have the funds at their disposal to register Olmo. Barcelona now have work to do to convince the governing bodies that the delay was out of their control and as a result, missed the deadline to register him.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano also reported on Thursday that Olmo's stance on staying at Barcelona has not changed. Despite the interest from England, Italy and Germany, he is not entertaining discussions with any other club, which is bad news for the likes of Arsenal, who may have hoped to sign him this month.

While the situation is seemingly on track to work itself out, fans of Barcelona have not held back from expressing their views on the mess the club finds itself in. According to Forbes, one of Barcelona's fan groups have demanded the resignation of their president, Joan Laporta.

This is because Barcelona stood to lose in the region of €263 million (£218m) if Olmo was to walk away as a free agent. Fans believe this latest mess is the culmination of four years of mismanagement and the damage caused to reputation is irreparable.
