Manchester United and Manchester City won't be signing Barcelona star Dani Olmo during the January transfer window - despite the player's agent being spotted in Manchester recently.

Andy Bara, a leading agent at Niagara Sports, flew to the city on a private jet and was due to attend City's game against Everton on Boxing Day, but claimed to only be on holiday. The agency represents several Spanish players, including Alvaro Morata and former City striker Alvaro Negredo.

Eighteen months ago, Bara also helped negotiate the £77million deal to sign Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig, the same club Olmo left this summer. The midfielder joined Barcelona amid reputed interest from Pep Guardiola, but the Catalan giants have struggled to register the player - due to financial concerns.

However, they have now released a statement confirming good news, on that front. It reads: "Dani Olmo and Pau Victor have been registered for La Liga and are therefore available for selection by coach Hansi Flick, including for Sunday's Spanish Super Cup Final. On Wednesday, the Higher Sports Council (Consejo Superior de Deportes, CSD) announced an injunction giving the green light for the two players to play."

That statement came a week after they issued an update on New Year's Eve about the situation. "FC Barcelona informs that it has applied for a new license for the players Daniel Olmo and Pau Victor to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). Club would like to deny having requested or receiving any moratorium to any governing body for these inscriptions."

If they had not been able to register Olmo, then the Spanish playmaker could have exercised a clause within his contract to end his deal and leave as a free agent. There was also talk that a loan move could be possible for the rest of this season - with the Premier League a potential destination and United credited with an interest.
