Leeds United know they will have to do something they have not managed in their previous two meetings against a John Eustace side when they face Blackburn Rovers at Elland Road on New Year's Day.

While the Whites boast a strong record against most of their Championship rivals, they have failed to score in their last two meetings with Rovers. That's something of a rarity for Daniel Farke's side, and the German boss knows they will have their work cutout again at Elland Road.

Leeds lost the reverse fixture 1-0 at Ewood Park in November, with Todd Cantwell's penalty proving to be the difference, while their automatic promotion hopes were severely dented last April when Sammy Szmodics' goal gave Blackburn a 1-0 win at Elland Road.

Farke's side head into Wednesday's encounter in good form and full confidence, knowing that a win will keep them top of the Championship table. However, the Whites boss is well aware that it won't be a routine home win.

“It's just another game, but also against one of the best sides in this league," Farke said. “It’s not easy to open them and for that we have to be, again, at our best in order to find good solutions.

"There are also better solutions than we found in the first game in order to create chances and to cause problems for them.

“I want to win each and every game. I'm a bit disappointed if we don't win every game. But I'm not carried away thinking of what will happen in a few months, I have so much work to do to focus on the everyday work.

“At the start of the season I was not thinking about winning the league, I was thinking how can we be successful this season losing so many key players.

"My only focus is how the hell can we score a goal against John (Eustace) because we have not managed to score against him in recent games."

Leeds could again shufffle their starting XI, with Joel Piroe set to return after impressing from the bench in the 1-0 win over Derby County on Sunday.
