Daniel Farke’s animated chat with Bogle and Tanaka frustration in Leeds United moments missed
Leeds United extended their lead at the summit of the Championship to two points on Monday following their goalless draw at Burnley, although the gap could have been bigger with a win.
Victory would have seen the Whites go four points clear and six points ahead of the play-off places. However, Daniel Farke has dismissed the idea that it is an opportunity missed.
He views the result as a point gained given Burnley boast the best defensive record in the division, having conceded just nine times after 29 league matches. “They are on a massive unbeaten run so if you come away with a point it's always a good result,” said Farke.

However, the boss was left frustrated by several moments in the game itself.
Farke unhappy with Bogle booking
Speaking after full-time, Farke said he was frustrated by some of the referee’s decisions. “I’m a bit annoyed with the yellow cards we conceded today," he said. "I’ve not watched them back but the feeling was [they came] after the wrong decision of the referee.”
However, he was unhappy with Jayden Bogle himself for picking up a yellow card for dissent. The right-back thought he should have been awarded a free-kick but fired verbals at the assistant referee when it was not given, earning him a caution.
“We could have reacted a bit smarter anyhow,” Farke continued. “Jayden’s yellow card, I was not happy because he already has a few.”
Bogle now has eight yellow cards for the season, having already served a one-game suspension for caution accumulation earlier in the campaign. Farke was spotted chatting to Bogle on the pitch after the final whistle had been blown.
Tanaka frustration
Ao Tanaka struggled to find a defence-splitting ball during the match and at times cut a frustrated figure. The midfielder had plenty of touches and ticked the play over suitably, albeit without much penetration.
At one stage in the first half, Tanaka had the ball for several seconds and looked for a route forward but found no pass avenue. Once he had played it sideways, he beckoned to the front players to show him better options with more movement.
That was the tale for the match, with United struggling to find a forward ball in between the lines and it ultimately led to just one shot on target for both sides across the 90 minutes. Tanaka was justified in his annoyance, the Japan star completing 91 per cent of his 71 attempted passes.
Familiar faces
Jaidon Anthony and Conor Roberts were plying their trade at United last season but both lined up on the right flank against the Whites on Monday. Sam Byram did well to field Anthony and keep Roberts at bay to contribute towards the clean sheet.
The former Leeds pair have 53 United games between them, with each one coming under Farke in both cases. And after full-time, the German greeted them and shared pleasantries, having used them both in last year’s play-off final.
The duo are still playing Championship football but it is entirely possible that they will be joining Leeds in the top-flight should Burnley also secure promotion. Just three points and two places separate the teams as things stand.
