Daniel Farke doubles down on Illan Meslier message as he responds to Leeds United criticism
Daniel Farke has doubled down on his decision to stick with Illan Meslier as Leeds United's first-choice goalkeeper and admitted there was: "Not one doubt in my mind."
Meslier's position as No.1 stopper at Elland Road has come under fire after he made a couple of errors during Leeds' 3-3 draw against Hull City last time out in the Championship. The most notable mistake came when he dropped the ball from around his crossbar and allowed Joao Pedro a simple task to prod home from close-range.
That wasn't the first high-profile howler he has made this season. During the 2-2 draw with Sunderland, in October, Meslier allowed Alan Browne's tame kick to squirm through his hands to prevent Leeds from taking all three points. This, combined with other errors, has seen some Leeds fans call for a change in goal.

However, Farke has decided to stick Meslier for the visit of Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday and he explained why there is no need to panic - and take him out of the starting XI. The Frenchman, who was named in the PFA Team of the Year for the 2023/24 season, has kept 14 clean sheets in 26 league games this term.
During his pre-match interview, Farke said: "No [doubt]. Illan is a self-critical young man, who was also not happy with his performance, but it was also no coincidence he was in the team of the year last season at Championship level. [It was voted]. Not by us or the fans, but by a neutral panel as the best goalkeeper in this league.
"Right now, he is a goalkeeper of a team who are sitting top of the league and we would be the first club in history who is panicking when you are sitting top of the league - and are nine or 10 games unbeaten - but then you change your No.1 goalkeeper just because of a poor game. Not one doubt in my mind, no."
Speaking on Sky Sports, pundit Curtis Davies added: "From the manager's talks there, no.
"Obviously, if he continues to make mistakes there has to be a level [decision]. They have Karl Darlow as No.2 and he's the Wales No.1. It's not like they have a young goalkeeper behind him without the experience and know-how.
"Maybe you would worry. He's made the mistakes, yes, but often he has saved them, as well.
"Last year he was in the PFA team of the season voted for by players. Players know players.
"I don't think they'd vote for him [just] because he was the Leeds goalkeeper. He has made the mistakes and cost them a lot of points, but he has saved them a lot before, as well."
