Daniel Levy issues response to critics as Tottenham chairman defends transfer spending

Daniel Levy has hit back at suggestions Tottenham have not backed their managers.

Former boss Antonio Conte issued a damning criticism of the club before his departure in March and Jose Mourinho had previously been critical of the backing he received during his time in north London.

Spurs have since turned to Ange Postecoglou as they look to build ahead of next season, with the hope being that the former Celtic boss can bring attacking football back to the club.

Levy admits Spurs are “paying the price” for “some of the acquisitions” that have not worked out but hit back at any idea those in the dugout have not been backed.

The chairman was speaking on a video call held with representatives of key supporter groups ahead of the launch of the club’s new Fan Advisory Board.

“The notion that Tottenham haven’t backed certain managers is incorrect,” he said.

“We’re currently paying the price, perhaps, where some of the acquisitions have not turned out to be as we hoped.”
