Darlington FC pay tribute to former PA announcer and BBC broadcaster

Darlington Football Club have paid tribute to their former PA announcer and BBC broadcaster, Peter Grant who has died after being diagnosed with cancer.

In a statement on their website, the club said: "The club is sad to learn about the passing of Peter Grant, who was the club's PA announcer in the latter days at Feethams and in the early years at the Arena.

"We would like to pass on our sincere condolences to his family and friends."

Peter Grant was a familiar voice on radio shows Magic, Hallam FM, Plymouth Sound, Durham FM, Radio Aire, TFM, and BBC Radio Newcastle and Tees.

He also hosted the TV show Made In Tyne and Wear, and provided travel and weather updates on BBC Look North breakfast.

The BBC shared a statement in his memory: "Peter will be fondly remembered as a talented broadcaster, former colleague, and friend here at the BBC.

"His passion for radio and entertaining audiences was phenomenal, and our thoughts go out to his family at this time."

Former BBC Radio Newcastle broadcaster, Alfie Joey, expressed his sorrow, saying: "Well this is sad.

"An old friend of mine from radioland has died.

"Peter Grant was great company and relentlessly positive.

"Even when he was given his cancer diagnosis last year he said he wasn't going to dwell on the negatives.

"What an amazing outlook to have and to learn from.

"Thoughts and love to his wife Sarah-Jane and family.

"And fond memories of some happy times together, on and off air.

"RIP Peter."
