Darwin Nunez first post on social media since deleting Instagram images is message to Liverpool idol

Darwin Nunez of Liverpool

Darwin Nunez has made his first social media post since deleting his Liverpool-related Instagram images on Sunday, in a message reserved for Luis Suarez.

Nunez caused a stir after Sunday's 4-2 win over Tottenham by removing all pictures that relate to his time with Reds, leading to speculation about his future on Merseyside as a result.

However, in a simple reply to a post from former Reds striker Suarez, who was marking his 500th career goal on Monday evening, Nunez simply replied: 'Idolo (idol)' followed by the heart-eyes and tensed bicep emojis.

Suarez posted to share the news of his milestone after he registered a hat-trick for Inter Miami in a 6-2 win over New York Red Bulls on Monday, writing: writing: "500 goals in clubs, incredible. Thank you Nacional, Groningen, Ajax, Liverpool, Barcelona, Atletico [Madrid], Gremio, Inter Miami. And thanks to all of you for the support."

Nunez, who played up top with Suarez for Uruguay at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, was making his first post on any social media platform from since he purged his Instagram of all images relating to his current club after Sunday's win over Spurs, where he played around 15 minutes plus stoppage time as a substitute.

The No.9 also blocked a number of Liverpool fan accounts on Twitter on Sunday evening with the actions believed to be in response to online abuse after a disappointing few weeks for Jurgen Klopp's side generally.

Suarez scored 133 of his 500 goals for Liverpool during a three-and-a-half-year period with the Reds after a January 2011 switch from Ajax. He joined Barcelona in a deal worth around £75m in the summer of 2014.
