Darwin Nunez showed true colors in viral Liverpool moment against Southampton
Liverpool star Darwin Nunez had quite a night at St Mary's on Wednesday evening against Southampton.
The Uruguayan was taunted by Southampton fans, who branded him a "s*** Andy Carroll". Thankfully for Liverpool, it was Nunez who had the last laugh. On 24 minutes, the 25-year-old raced through on goal after a deflected Trent Alexander-Arnold pass found itself at Nunez's feet.
One-on-one with Alex McCarthy in the Saints net, Nunez coolly slotted it past the Southampton goalkeeper, showing composure to put Liverpool in front during their Carabao Cup quarter-final tie, a game they won 2-1.

Having heard the chants, Nunez shushed the Southampton supporters, before then putting his finger to his ear, asking for them to sing it louder, taunting them following his goal.
But then in the second half, Nunez showed off a different side of himself. On 58 minutes, tensions looked as though they were about to spill over, with Nunez and Southampton center-back Jan Bednarek grappling with one another before the referee's whistle went.
However, instead of continuing the minor scrap, the pair immediately embraced, sharing a hug between competitors as Nunez patted Bednarek on the back as the latter returned to Southampton's backline following the awarding of the free-kick.
Had the incident occurred back during his first season, there's every chance Nunez may have opted for a different approach, as pointed out by a number of Liverpool supporters on social media. "Brilliant," wrote one Liverpool supporter on X after seeing the 'altercation', before adding: "2 seasons ago he'd have floored him."
Liverpool.com says: Fair play to Nunez on both accounts. He took his goal well, even if the ball did fall to him after taking a big deflection following Alexander-Arnold's pass. He showed good composure to put the finish away, and then showed off a different side to him after his altercation in the second half with Bednarek.
