THE new date of a popular charity run in support of Colchester Hospital that was postponed due to bad weather has been confirmed.

The Santa Fun Run, originally scheduled to take place on December 8, was called off as Storm Darragh battered Essex.

Planned for its 15th consecutive event, the Colchester and Ipswich Hospitals Charity, which organises the annual event, postponed it due to health and safety concerns.

Now, a new date has been set for runners and walkers to take on either 5km or 3km around Colchester’s Castle Park, this Sunday, January 12.

A charity spokesman said: “We would love for your fundraising to support Colchester and Ipswich Hospitals Charity Fund which supports patients and staff when they need us most.

"Alternatively, you can choose to fundraise for one of our current appeals: Butterfly Appeal, Cancer Wellbeing, Children's Appeal, Staff Wellbeing or for the ward or department within our services closest to your heart.

“Just let us know your preference when you sign up.”

Runners will get a free Santa suit, and youngsters under five participating in the race will get a free hat.

Upon completion, participants will receive a finish-line snack and a medal.

Anyone, who has not signed up for the run can still do this online.

The race will begin at 10am.
