New date confirmed for City's postponed Boxing Day clash at Oldham
YORK City's postponed National League fixture at Oldham will now take place on Tuesday, January 21 (7:45pm).
The match, originally scheduled for Boxing Day, was called off an hour before the 5:30pm kick-off due to heavy fog affecting visibility at Boundary Park, with conditions showing little sign of improvement into the evening.
The opening of turnstiles had also been delayed until 4:30pm, at which point referee James Bancroft made the decision to postpone the match.
Moved to a later kick-off for DAZN coverage, City boss Adam Hinshelwood admitted he felt for the travelling supporters who had already made their ways across to Oldham.
“Obviously we appreciate him trying to give it as long as possible, but we’re stood here and we can’t see all four corner flags,” he told BBC Radio York at the time.
“I just think for the supporters as well, travelling all this way and they’re high up in that stand, they wouldn’t have been able to see one of the goals.
“It’s not ideal, and I really feel for them because you see a lot of them out the front there that made the journey over in tough conditions and give up their Boxing Day to come and support us and unfortunately, we’ve not been able to give them a game.
“I think they’ve tried the best they can, you can’t do much about fog. It’s quite an easy decision if it’s a frozen pitch, but fog is a difficult one. It definitely feels like it’s getting worse.”
The Latics instead used the time for a training session on the pitch, with boss Micky Mellon admitting “I don’t believe the game was playable, it was trainable.”
The rearranged fixture remains all-ticket for away supporters, with tickets available for purchase until January 20.
Tickets for the original match will remain valid, but any supporters who require a refund should email supporter.services@oldhamathletic.co.uk.
