The Professional Game Match Officials Limited have confirmed that Premier League referee David Coote has been sacked with immediate effect following a 'thorough investigation'.

Coote was suspended by the referees' body on November 11 after a clip circulated on social media that claimed to show him criticising Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp during lockdown. The video showed Coote calling Klopp "f****** arrogant" and a "German c***".

Shortly afterward, another video was released showing Coote 'sniffing a white substance' during Euro 2024. Following an investigation, it has now been confirmed that Coote has had his employment terminated after an investigation.

A statement from the PGMOL read: "Following the conclusion of a thorough investigation into David Coote’s conduct, his employment with PGMOL has been terminated today with immediate effect.

"David Coote’s actions were found to be in serious breach of the provisions of his employment contract, with his position deemed untenable. Supporting David Coote continues to be important to us and we remain committed to his welfare.

"David Coote has a right to appeal the decision to terminate his employment."

Coote remains the subject of a separate Football Association (FA) investigation over an alleged betting breach. The allegations, reported by The Sun, relate to a booking received by Leeds United's Ezgjan Alioski from Coote during their Championship game with West Brom in 2019.

UEFA suspended Coote from refereeing in its competitions on the same day as the PGMOL. Coote has denied any wrongdoing and said the allegations was 'false and defamatory'.
