David De Gea 'tells friends' he will sign a new lucrative deal at Manchester United

David De Gea has reportedly told friends that he will sign a lucrative new deal at Manchester United.

The Spanish stopper’s current deal runs out in 2020 and he has been locked in discussions over a new contract for months.

Despite reports that De Gea looked set to leave Old Trafford, The Sun say that the 28-year-old will extend his stay in Manchester and become one of United’s top earners.

The long-term deal will ward off interest from PSG, who were keen to land De Gea either this summer or next in a deal that could have made him the world’s most expensive goalkeeper.

Although De Gea struggled with Spain at the World Cup and hasn’t always been at his best this season, he is arguably United’s only world class player currently and Jose Mourinho has made his desire to keep him clear.

He insisted the keeper wanted to remain a United player last month: “I know he wants to stay, I know his agent is happy to do what the player wants and I also know the board want him to stay and they are working on that so hopefully sooner or later they reach a conclusion.”

While De Gea looks set to stay, the Daily Mail report that Antonio Valencia will look for a January move after falling out of favour under Mourinho.

After liking an Instagram post calling for Mourinho to be sacked in October, Valencia has lost his place as one of the Portuguese’s most-trusted lieutenants.

Now United’s captain and longest-serving player looks set for the exit door, either in January or when his contract runs out next summer.
