Huddersfield Town boss Michael Duff says the club have “got to support” Ruben Roosken following his dismissal on debut.

The January recruit had a nightmare start to his Town career, with the wing-back being shown a straight red card for a high challenge just nine minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute in Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Rotherham United.

Roosken is now set to miss Town’s next three matches, starting with their trip to face fellow high-fliers Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park tomorrow evening.

“It probably sums up where we’re at at the minute in terms of luck,” Duff told HTTV. “I’ve not seen the incident back. It’s not what we wanted, we’ve got to look after him now.

“He’s not even trained with the group so it shows you where we are. We didn’t really want him involved today, but you’re looking around at the bodies, and you’re thinking how the game might pan out, what you want, because we don’t just pick subs. There were other people that were fit, but we thought we might need him.

“We’ve got to support him now. He’s a good kid, and hopefully he’ll be an asset for the football club.”

The Terriers have also picked up two further injuries over recent days, with David Kasumu and Nigel Lonwijk having both sustained hamstring setbacks.

Discussing the duo, Duff told BBC Radio Leeds: “It’s really unfortunate (Kasumu’s injury), it’s so innocuous, it’s such a random game. Kas was going to start against Wigan, and he has a shot in training with his right foot, and he felt his left hamstring, and they’ve literally done nothing.

“In a game, they do 11k on average, and it was a two-and-a-half/3k day, because we made it really light deliberately. It’s innocuous, we’ll look into it as we always do.

“Nigel has done his hamstring again today (against Rotherham), that’s in the first minute of the game, so it’s not a fatigue thing. We’ll look into it, but that’s where we’re at at the minute, we’re just constantly fighting injuries.”
