David Moyes makes Everton demand as Aston Villa prepare for familiar challenge
David Moyes has urged Everton to pull together in order to ensure the Toffees remain in the Premier League ahead of their summer switch to their new stadium, after being re-appointed as the club's manager. Moyes has replaced the sacked Sean Dyche, who left the club on Thursday evening prior to their FA Cup win over Peterborough United at Goodison Park.
Moyes spent 11 years in charge of Everton before succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United in 2013 and, although that spell didn't work out at Old Trafford, the Scot has rebuilt his reputation as a quality Premier League coach across his two stints at West Ham United - during which time he won the Europa Conference League, in 2023.
He now returns with the intention of steering the club away from the relegation peril they find themselves in once again, and they begin with the visit of Aston Villa to Goodison on Wednesday evening for a Premier League fixture - it'll be the second time in the space of two matches that Villa have faced a side under new management, following their FA Cup victory over Graham Potter's West Ham on Friday night.

“It’s great to be back! I enjoyed 11 wonderful and successful years at Everton and didn’t hesitate when I was offered the opportunity to rejoin this great club," Moyes said. “I’m excited to be working with The Friedkin Group and I am looking forward to helping them rebuild the club.
“Now we need Goodison and all Evertonians to play their part in getting behind the players in this important season so we can move into our fabulous new stadium as a Premier League team.”
Everton chairman Marc Watts added: “We are pleased that David is joining us at this pivotal time in Everton’s history. With over a decade of experience at the club, he is the right leader to propel us through our final season at Goodison Park and into our new stadium. We look forward to working with David to build the foundation of a new era for Everton.”
