David Strelec sees Celtic transfer cover broken by his dad as reason why £8m deadline day deal collapsed revealed
David Strelec's dad has lifted the lid on the Slovan Bratislava striker's failed move to Celtic.
And he insists a switch to the Scottish Premiership champions would have been "great" for his son. Kyogo's departure leaves the Hoops have been left with Adam Idah left as the only recognised first-team striker after the deadline passed on Monday night with Johnny Kenny acting as back up - despite making just one appearance since returning from his successful loan spell at Shamrock Rovers.
Record Sport revealed that Strelec was one of the names that is on the Hoops' radar going into the final hours of the winter window. Sport 24 report that Celtic told Slovan they were willing to pay £8m for the 23-year-old on deadline day- but the Slovakian champions demanded a £9.5m payday for the frontman. Following the closure of the window, Strelec's agent Michal Čierny was asked if a move to Glasgow's east end was off the table following last-gasp talks. He said: "Yes, for now it is."
Speaking the same outlet, his dad Milan opened up on a frantic final 24 hours for his son: "The clubs did not agree. And is David sad?
"First of all, he is a professional, and he takes it that way. The world will not collapse.
"Slovan was very interested in staying, helping Slovan win the championship and also getting back into the main stage of the Champions League. I don't take it as tragic either, although a transfer to Celtic would be great."
