David Unsworth urges Everton owner Farhad Moshiri to name permanent manager
David Unsworth, the Everton caretaker manager, has urged club owner Farhad Moshiri to make a permanent managerial appointment as quick as possible.
Moshiri, Everton’s majority shareholder, revealed a statement that he has narrowed down the search for Ronald Koeman’s replacement to three names and that he hoped to name a new man soon.
Unsworth is not thought likely to be among the candidates for the position having enjoyed mixed fortunes during his interim spell in charge.

But the former Everton defender claims that with now 32 days having elapsed since Koeman left Goodison Park the Toffees need to act quickly.
“The sooner it is sorted the better. That’s a fair comment,” Unsworth said. “It’s a wonderful job for any aspiring manager. This is an amazing job. Who wouldn’t want it.
“The pressure on every manager in the Premier League is there whether you are top or the bottom. However, that doesn’t mean you wouldn’t want the job.”
Unsworth insists he is in the dark over whether he still has a chance of landing the job when the comments made by Moshiri were put to him.
“I don’t know,” he added. “I have just come in and seen that myself. If we are further down the line in terms of getting a permanent manager then fantastic.”
Meanwhile, Unsworth confirmed the club will not appeal against a decision to retrospectively hand Oumar Niasse a two-match ban for diving.
The Senegalese striker became the first player to be found guilty of deceiving a match official under new Premier League regulations for a penalty he won in last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace.
“From the start we will have to accept the decision,” Unsworth said.
“There is no appeal. But that doesn’t mean we have to agree. I know Oumar and he will always take a chance to have a shot on goal. Having seen the replay 50 times there is contact. Whether it is slight, there is contact.”
