EASTLEIGH manager Kelvin Davis hailed his side's resiliency after they secured a 2-2 draw against Oldham Athletic on Tuesday evening.

Richard Brindley's second-half goal earned the Spitfires a point in an entertaining draw at the Silverlake Stadium.

The Latics were looking to bounce back from a New Year’s Day reversal at Hartlepool, which was only their third league defeat of the season.

They were in the box seat after recovering from Ludwig Francillette’s 32nd-minute goal to lead midway through the second period.

Charlie Raglan hauled Oldham level after 62 minutes before Mike Fondop’s header edged them ahead just three minutes later.

But Eastleigh were not done, and Lloyd Humphries flicked on Paul McCallum’s long throw onto Brindley to deny Oldham maximum points.

Davis, speaking to the club's media team, said: "I thought it was a really strong performance in the first half, we looked really solid.

"We caused them a few problems and got the goal, which was really well-worked. It was difficult to keep that level of energy in the second half.

"The momentum changed when they got the equaliser. I felt it was a bit harsh, we could have had a free-kick against Joe (McDonnell).

"I'm not sure it was a free-kick in the first place for the ball to be delivered on. It's part of the game. Then we concede from a corner, which is not like us.

"It was a good delivery but we weren't tight enough in the box. We felt hard done by because of the performance we put in.

"We showed we are a resilient bunch. That's what I'm most proud of. We have spoken about what our goal is at home, so to go another game unbeaten, against a quality side, I've got to be pleased."

He continued: "We reacted well to the negative part of the game and it's great for Brinds (Brindley) to get another goal.

"He's in a great place and he's showing good energy for us. It looks like he is getting up the scoresheet ladder.

"To chip in with goals from the wingback position is massively important. There were some really strong performances across the pitch."

Welshman Lloyd Humphries, who joined Eastleigh in the summer from Weston-super-Mare, was named man of the match at the Silverlake.

"He's a fantastic lad, fundamentally a great guy," Davis said in response. "He's honest and he leaves everything on the pitch.

"He turns up every day with a great attitude and you can feel that when you are in and around him. That's what fans like to see, he gives 100 per cent.

"I thought Macca (Paul McCallum) was great today with how he held the ball up, he didn't lose one aerial duel.

"He gave us an opportunity to retain a foothold in the game and his work without the ball was another level as well.

"We had a front two that were very active and defended from the front, which is what we really like to do."

The result leaves Eastleigh four points outside the play-offs, however, seventh place Rochdale have three games in hand.
