Deadline day state of play as Rovers close in on left-back signing
Rovers are closing in on the signing of Yuri Ribeiro to bolster their left-back options, The Lancashire Telegraph understands.
The squad is currently light in that area while Harry Pickering is out injured, although Owen Beck returned to the starting line-up against Preston North End on Friday night.
Ribeiro is set to become Rovers’ fourth signing of the January window after Dion Sanderson, Adam Forshaw and Augustus Kargbo – the latter was unveiled ahead of kick-off against PNE.
The 28-year-old has made 12 appearances this season for Braga, who play in the Portuguese top flight.
He has experience of English football, having spent a couple of years at Nottingham Forest between 2019 and 2021.
Ribeiro also had a three-year spell at Legia Warsaw in Poland before heading to Braga in the summer.
It is understood that Rovers were also keen to sign Jayden Danns on loan from Liverpool, but the forward now looks set to join Sunderland.
Rovers have a good relationship with the Reds, having taken the likes of Harvey Elliott, Tyler Morton and now Beck on loan in recent years. Danns’ father, Neil, also had a stint at Ewood Park during his playing career.
The striker, who scored against Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup last month, is now set to join Regis Le Bris’ squad as Sunderland push to break into the automatic promotion spots.
Willem Geubbels and Mostafa Mohamed are two other names linked with moves to Rovers before tonight’s deadline but we understand that those reports are wide of the mark.
There are not expected to be any outgoings in the first team squad, although there may be further loan moves for youngsters.
Harry Leonard is set to stay part of John Eustace’s squad at Ewood Park rather than heading out on loan, and Arnor Sigurdsson is also expected to remain in East Lancashire at the time of writing.
