Deadline Day: West Brom sweating over late loan deal for Armstrong
CHAMPIONSHIP side West Brom hope to seal a very late loan deal for Saints striker Adam Armstrong, the Daily Echo understands.
However, the two clubs are waiting to learn if the deal was completed in time for the 11pm window and the transfer hangs in the balance.
Armstrong, 27, scored 24 goals in the Championship last campaign but has only found the net twice on his return to the Premier League.
Saints hoped to reduce the size of their squad and were willing to consider a deal for Armstrong if they received a loan fee and his wages covered.
Armstrong was linked with interest from Leeds United and Middlesbrough but it is the Baggies who hope to seal his signature.
