Declan Rice and Gabriel Magalhaes break silence after Arsenal fury at Lewis-Skelly red card
Declan Rice and Gabriel Magalhaes have shown their true colours following Arsenal's 1-0 win over Wolves. The duo played a crucial role in the controversial clash at Molineux on Saturday afternoon, dragging the Gunners over the line despite going down to 10 men.
Shortly before half-time, Michael Oliver raised eyebrows when he issued Myles Lewis-Skelly a red card for a seemingly harmless – but professional – foul to deny Wolves a counter-attack. The Video Assistant Referee quickly reviewed the incident and deemed the Arsenal defender's challenge to have been 'serious foul play'.
To the dismay of many, the on-field referee's decision was confirmed and Lewis-Skelly was given his marching orders. With a quarter of an hour or so left to play, Riccardo Calafiori, who replaced Ethan Nwaneri at half-time, fired the Gunners ahead.

With Arsenal short on options off the bench and their backs against the wall, Rice and Gabriel led Mikel Arteta's side to victory. After the game, they both marked the win with celebratory posts on social media.
"Great spirit from the team!! No matter what we stick together!! Thanks GUNNERS for the support," said Gabriel on Instagram, alluding to the controversial red card. Meanwhile, on his Instagram story, Rice wrote: "Against the odds [fingers crossed emoji]."
Speaking to reporters after the Wolves clash, Arteta was quizzed on the controversial red card – and he too remained coy. The Arsenal boss said: "I think it's that obvious that we don't need any comments today. Hopefully the right thing will happen after today."
When asked if the club will appeal the decision, Arteta replied: "Well hopefully we don't need to. If we have to, it's a really good precedent with what happened with Bruno [Fernandes vs Tottenham] this season. Hopefully.
"Ok we were in a position we shouldn't have been in, at least let's be in a position that we should be in for the next few weeks and allow our player to continue to do his job."
On overcoming such adversity, Arteta said: "That's what they show us every single day. This season has been very special for many circumstances, a lot of them very challenging. Today we had two again with Mikel [Merino] and Martin [Odegaard] out.
"Still we come here, we have to face a very difficult opponent fighting for relegation and we have another issue during in the match, but still we go about it and that's what I love about them. That's why our supporters as well celebrated and they were behind them because they can feel that."
Then, on his side's 'mettle and fortitude', Arteta added: "We're ticking a lot I think this season. I'm not surprised because of the will the team has to compete to win and to again show that any context is good for us and we can adapt to that and we're going to face it.
"On that I have no doubts after the result, after going away as well to make it count and today was the right one..."
