Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard nominated for Premier League player of the season but two stars snubbed

Arsenal pair Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard have been nominated of the Premier League's player of the season award, but Bukayo Saka misses out.

Gunners captain Odegaard and £105m midfielder Rice have been instrumental to the club's title chances this season, as they look to push City all the way for the second season running.

Saka, who has 16 league goals to his name this season, has been left out of the eight nominees but did get a young player of the year nod.

Another surprise omission is City midfielder Rodri, who was considered among the favourites for the prize before Thursday’s nominees were confirmed.

City duo Phil Foden and Erling Haaland did get nominated for both honours, along with Chelsea's Cole Palmer, Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins and Newcastle frontman Alexander Isak. Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk makes up the list.

Fans have the opportunity to vote for their preferred player as they have their say on who should win the award. Voting runs until noon on May 13.
