Defender who completed Aston Villa January transfer suffers serious injury
Aston Villa decided to sell Diego Carlos to Super Lig side Fenerbahce in the January transfer window - and the Brazilian defender has already suffered an injury setback early into his spell in Istanbul, report local journalist in Turkiye.
Carlos signed for Villa from Sevilla for £26m in the summer of 2022 but, with 18 months remaining on his Villa contract, the club allowed him to leave the club and explore a new opportunity abroad. He joined Jose Mourinho's side for a fee believed to be in the region of £10m and made his debut at the end of January.
The 31-year-old, who had made 17 appearances for Villa this season including six in the Champions League, came off the bench as a late substitute in a win over Goztepe, before he made his first start in a 3-2 victory over Rizespor. Carlos was introduced in the cup game against second tier side Erzurumspor FK on Wednesday night but was forced off after just six minutes.

Reports in Turkiye suggest that Carlos will now be sidelined for more than a month, although it's not been specified what sort of injury the setback is, or confirmed how severe the blow is to Carlos and Mourinho, who pushed hard to bring the centre half to the Super Lig throughout the winter window.
Carlos has been rather haunted by injuries; his first campaign at Villa was practically a write-off after he ruptured his Achilles tendon on his home debut, in a win over Everton. He suffered a hamstring injury last season and then a foot injury this, prior to leaving the club for Fenerbahce.
