Defender set to leave Blues - and winger ruled out for weeks
Ben Williams is set to leave Carlisle United.
Head coach Mike Williamson has confirmed that he expects the left-sided player to be “moving on”.
Williams’ short-term deal at Brunton Park is up this month and Williamson said it would not be extended.
The former Barnsley and Cheltenham Town man joined Carlisle under Paul Simpson at the start of the campaign.
He has made ten appearances in the first half of the campaign which has been hit by injury.
Just four of those came under Williamson, and the 25-year-old will now depart as United’s under-pressure head coach tries to improve his squad in the January transfer window.
The Blues boss would not be drawn on whether he would move to bring in a direct replacement for Williams, who played at left wing-back during his time at Brunton Park.

“We’re looking in all areas,” he said. “I'm not going to go through every position, but we need to bring in quality.
“We need to bring in some players, because at the minute, it's proving difficult.”
Williams is one of three players on short-term deals that expire this month, the others being Tyler Burey and Kadeem Harris.
While Harris started in the 1-0 defeat at Tranmere Rovers, and Carlisle are in negotiations to keep the ex-Sheffield Wednesday man, Burey was omitted from the squad.
Williamson confirmed it was a selection decision to leave out Burey, who was not with the squad at Prenton Park.
On Burey’s future with United, Williamson said he was “not sure”, adding: “We're working on a lot of incomings, which is difficult.
“So [that’s] part of the reason he wasn't involved today.”
Another injury blow has hit the Blues, meanwhile, with Jordan Jones now on the sidelines.
Williamson said the winger has suffered a small fracture to his shoulder/scapular following Wednesday’s defeat at Crewe Alexandra.
Jones is set to be out for two to four weeks, the head coach said.
“He fell on his shoulder very early on [after coming on],” Williamson said.
“It's a blow, but hopefully we’re talking in weeks rather than months.”
