Defender weighing up 'options' to leave Carlisle United
Carlisle United’s Jack Robinson is mulling over “a few options” as he looks set to be the latest player to leave.
The out-of-favour defender looks to be on his way out of Brunton Park.
Robinson, 23, has not figured in the first team for more than two months.
And the former Middlesbrough man, who has been on United’s books for a year and a half following a previous loan spell, is expected to move on amid a January overhaul of the Blues’ squad.
“He [Robinson] is somebody who has got a few options,” Williamson told the News & Star.
“I think he's just taking his time to choose the right one.”
United have already seen several players leave this month, with Harrison Neal, Jon Mellish, Ben Williams and Tyler Burey moving on along with loanees Harrison Biggins, Daniel Adu-Adjei and Dominic Sadi.
Striker Luke Armstrong could also depart having been left out of Saturday’s squad against Bradford City amid transfer interest.
Robinson is unlikely to be the only player to depart in the coming days.
“There are one or two,” said Williamson.
“This is something that's not coming from me. It's that when lads aren't playing, aren't getting the game time, they're going to want to explore [things].
“I can only be as honest as I possibly can. If they come in and ask, ‘Am I a part of your plans?’ I can say yes, but they're not going to be starting week in, week out.
“So then naturally it will make them just pursue other options.”
Williamson said he did not want to lose Neal but he said his inability to offer him regular starts meant the midfielder opted to pursue a move to Fleetwood Town.
“Harrison's somebody who I wanted to keep and I said that to him, but I couldn't promise him the amount of game time [he wanted],” said the head coach.
“I don't think there is anyone here that's happy just to sit and play a bit part, but he wanted to play week in, week out.
“So he expressed his intention and desire, and we felt as though we don't want anyone staying when they don't want that.”
