More on this storyline
Doug Christie took a look at the second-half box score Wednesday night inside Ball Arena and paused for 10 seconds. “In the second half, four (against) 15,” Christie said, and then sighed, staring at the piece of paper in front of him. After the long pause: “Free-throw discrepancy,” he said. Christie appeared as emotional as he’s been during his time as the Sacramento Kings’ interim head coach. His team was minutes removed from a 116-110 loss to the Denver Nuggets in which it was outscored 32-17 in the fourth quarter. “This one’s going to hurt,” Christie said. “But this is our league, and we got to deal with it.” -via Sacramento Bee / March 6, 2025
“The refs were terrible. Terrible as s---. It’s as simple as that,” DeMar DeRozan said after scoring a game-high 35 points, with only four in the fourth quarter. DeRozan shot just 2-of-6 in the final frame after pouring in 18 points in the third. “We got to do a better job of executing,” DeRozan said. “... There were multiple (calls missed). Check the free-throw difference. There was a bunch of times we got hit, got smacked. It was three, four shots I took, clearly got hit, got smacked. They get the same call on the other end. Throws off our whole rhythm. Gives them momentum at home. Makes it tough on us to execute. It was a game we should have had.” -via Sacramento Bee / March 6, 2025

Scottie Pippen: Who impressed me the most? I was very impressed with Karl Malone, especially in the weight room. He is a beast because of how much he pushed himself. I mean, he stays in the gym for four hours and works until he can’t even pick up a cup of coffee. That’s just who he is—relentless. When it comes to discipline with sleep and diet, though, I wouldn’t say Charles Barkley was the most focused in that regard. Barkley was more into hanging out and enjoying himself. But someone like Chris Mullin stood out—he was incredibly disciplined. Him and Patrick Ewing were all about conditioning, day in and day out. As for who talked the most, outside of Michael—who was nonstop—it was definitely Charles Barkley. He was always poking and talking smack. Of course, people would throw it back at him, saying, ‘Well, you don’t have a championship.’ That’s when he’d have to tuck his tail between his legs." -via YouTube / January 20, 2025
