Denis Law funeral to take place today as fans bid final farewell to Aberdeen legend

Fans will be given the chance to give a final farewell to football legend and Aberdonian Denis Law.

Thousands of fans are expected to line the streets ahead of the Manchester United icon's funeral at Manchester Cathedral today (Tuesday, February 11).

The former striker's procession will begin at Old Trafford stadium at 1.10pm before making its way through the city to the cathedral for the service, giving football fans the chance to pay their final respects.

Law passed away on Friday, January 17 after a four-year battle with Alzheimer's disease and and vascular dementia. Tributes flooded in for Law in the wake of his passing, with former Aberdeen and Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson hailing Denis Law as the "greatest Scottish player of all time" and described him as the "cornerstone" of the Red Devils' success.

Law won the Ballon d’Or in 1964 was the only Scottish player to do so – and claimed 55 caps for his country. His 30 goals for his country makes him Scotland's joint top goal scorer of all time.

During his time with Manchester United, he won two league titles and was a member of their European Cup-winning team under Sir Matt Busby in 1968 when they became the first English club to lift the trophy.

One third of the 'Holy Trinity' alongside George Best and Sir Bobby Charlton, the trio are depicted in an iconic statue outside Old Trafford, with fans laying tributes to him following his death.
