Dennis Bergkamp tipped for surprise Arsenal role that could unlock Kai Havertz
Arsenal icon Dennis Bergkamp has emerged as a potential coaching addition to Mikel Arteta's backroom staff as bookmakers tip the Dutchman to make a dream return move to north London.
The 55-year-old has been an assistant manager to Frank de Boer, Peter Bosz and Marcel Keizer in the past during his time at Ajax. Meanwhile, he has occupied the forward coach role in Amsterdam and, speaking at the Football Writers' Association (FWA) tribute night, the former Netherlands international revealed he has hopes of returning to the dugout.
He said: "I'm at the stage of my life now where I've got a bit more freedom with my time, the kids are all grown up now! If something interesting to me were to come along, then I'm sure I'd like to do something like that."

Following his admission, Betfair have compiled odds on Bergkamp's next steps in football. Among those is to join Arsenal's backroom staff, take over as head coach, or even join Premier League title rivals Liverpool on Arne Slot's staff, alongside former top-flight defender John Heitinga.
The 55-year-old is just 3/1 to succeed Arteta and evens to be in charge by the end of the decade. He has also been tipped to join Ruud van Nistelrooy's backroom staff at Leicester City.
Saturday's defeat at home to Fulham was a seventh defeat on the spin for the former Manchester United striker, and Bergkamp has been installed as a 4/1 shot to support his former attacking rival.
The Arsenal legend is 3/1 to become the Gunners' next boss. Meanwhile, Bergkamp is evens to be in charge at the Emirates within the next five years.
An appointment for Bergkamp could help patch up and improve Arsenal's goal-scoring output. Arteta's side have found it difficult to find the back of the net with Kai Havertz bearing the brunt of the responsibility - and receiving criticism for his perceived lack of contribution.
After failing to beat Aston Villa, Arteta said: "I feel very disappointed not to win the match. Obviously, there was only one team who deserves to win, and that was Arsenal.
"We gave nothing away, didn't concede any shots. We dominated play. We didn't allow them to run, we generated chances but, in the last 20 metres, we were missing a goal. And when you do what we've done against them today, you have to win the game.
"If you draw you always want more, but I cannot ask much more from the boys apart from putting the ball in the net. Individually can we do things a bit better, with a little bit more quality, and deliver that magic moment when it's necessary? Yes. But that is not so easy."
