John Terry has admitted for the first time that he could retire from football when he leaves Chelsea this summer.

The captain, leader, legend is out of contract at the end of the season and has confirmed he will be departing Stamford Bridge.

He made a goalscoring return to the starting line-up for Wednesday’s thrilling 4-3 win over Watford with the Premier League title already secured.

Terry, along with Gary Cahill, will lift the trophy on Sunday after the final game of the title-winning campaign against relegated Sunderland in west London.

The 36-year-old had previously stated his desire to continue playing for a further season away from his beloved Blues.

However, Terry revealed after the Watford thriller that it will take something special to stop him hanging his boots up for good.

“I’ve not ruled out Sunday being the final game of my playing career,” he told Sky Sports.

“If the right offer comes along, whether that’s here or abroad, then I’ll sit down with my family and consider it.

“I never wanted to be that player hanging about, not being wanted anymore and stopping the progress of a young player.

“The transition of being on the bench has given me a different point of view and that will serve me well if I want to go into management.

“Genuinely I have not made a decision yet. I’m evaluating my options.”

Victory over Sunderland in the final game of the season would see Chelsea rack up a record-breaking 30th Premier League victory in a single campaign.

The Blues still have an FA Cup final with Arsenal to look forward to after the Black Cats clash.
