Derby County captain Richard Keogh could be out of action until December 2020 after drink-drive incident
Derby captain Richard Keogh is facing a 15-month layoff after damaging two knee ligaments following a drunken car crash last week.
The 33-year-old was injured during a late-night incident featuring teammates Mason Bennett and Tom Lawrence after a team-building dinner with staff on Tuesday.
Wales international Lawrence and striker Bennett were both arrested before midnight - and subsequently charged with drink-driving - after their two vehicles were involved in a crash on the A6 in the Allestree area of Derby.
A Range Rover, believed to have he been driven by Lawrence, slammed into a tree after colliding with Bennett’s stationary Mercedes. Keogh was a passenger in the back where paramedics found him unconscious.

He’s not expected to be fit again until December 2020 with only three months left on his contract at the club, leaving his career in the balance and the Rams captain says he feels responsible for the incident.
“I've spoken to him. He was here [at the training ground] for a short moment and I spoke briefly to him because there's a lot going on,” Derby manager Phillip Cocu told media over the weekend.
“He's extremely down, of course, because he realises what's going on for him personally and of course as a responsible player, as captain, to not be part of the team any more does something to you.
“I think he feels responsible, yeah.
“The more senior players always have to step up and take responsibility and it's now had a huge effect on him personally. It's a lot to deal with for him.”
