Derby County dealt January transfer window blow as medical booked
Derby County look set to miss out on January transfer target Louie Barry.
The Rams were interested in signing the Aston Villa forward this month as head coach Paul Warne looked to bolster his ranks for the rest of the Championship season. But the 21-year-old looks poised to join rivals Hull City on loan and is expected to undergo a medical ahead of next Monday’s transfer deadline.
Barry spent the first half of this season - as he did for the entirety of last season - with Stockport County, who he helped win promotion to League One in the summer of 2024.

He was then recalled from his loan spell with County at the beginning of January, having topped the League One goalscorer charts having netted 16 goals in 24 appearances. Barry has since trained with the Villa first team.
Barry has had plenty of interest; he was linked with Celtic, Leeds United and Middlesbrough on top of the Rams, but it has now emerged that Hull are in pole position to strike an agreement with Villa, according to our sister title Hull Live.
Warne responded to Derby’s link to Barry earlier this month, saying: "My honest answer is that I never speak about players at other clubs.
"I saw a manager talk about a player he put an offer in for the other day and it was so open. I will never do that, but as everyone knows I am looking for players across the top line.
"Any winger or any attacking player or number 10, I would be linked to - that is fact. I reckon if I typed in Louie Barry's name, I reckon there are more than Derby County being linked to him.”
