Jerry Yates rescued a point for Derby County as his stoppage-time penalty earned a 1-1 draw against Norwich City.

After Josh Sargent had put the hosts ahead in the second half, Yates levelled when he smashed home from the spot after Marcus Harness had been kicked in the face.

After Paul Warne was sacked as head coach yesterday, Derby arrived with a game plan to frustrate a Norwich side that was trying to maintain pressure on the top six.

Norwich struggled to fashion a way through the centre of the pitch, with the visitors happy to pounce on any attacking opportunities on the counter-attack. In fact, Derby had the ball in the back of the net which was the result of an excellent move which ended with Ben Osborn crossing for Lars-Jorgen Salvesen smashing into the roof of the net.

But his joy was shortlived as the flag went up for offside. At the end, former Derby winger Lewis Dobbin swept a shot beyond Jacob Widell Zetterstrom, but the referee's assistant also chalked off that goal.

In the second half, the Canaries came close from a dangerous free-kick which was headed across goal by Shane Duffy, but cleared at the back post by Nathaniel Mendez-Laing.

Derby had some encouraging moments when Nathaniel Mendez-Laing got in behind the Norwich defence, but chose the wrong option.

But the Norwich goal came at the end of a wonderful one-touch move that ended with Sargent crashing a shot past Zetterstrom. But in stoppage time, Harness was rewarded with a penalty after he was kicked in the face and Yates slotted straight down the middle.

Jacob Widell Zetterstrom: Had very little to do in the first half as Derby were well organised and Norwich ran out of ideas. Could do nothing about the goal. 6

Sondre Langas: The centre-back was hugely impressive on his debut. Was assured in everything he did and in one moment showed incredible pace. Just looks the part. 7

Nat Phillips: The on-loan Liverpool defender was excellent in the first half and snuffed out anything that ventured into his domain. Calm in possession. 6

Matt Clarke: There was one moment when he nearly got himself in trouble with a pass out of defence, but in the main, Norwich seldom got in behind Derby's backline. 6

Ben Osborn: Produced a peach of a cross that was smashed in by Lars-Jorgen Salvesen but the goal was chalked off for offside. Wing-back is not his position mind. 6

Liam Thompson: Was faced with his ex-Rams team-mate Lewis Dobbin who has the pace to trouble anybody. There was one moment when he snuck in behind in the first half, but that was it. Did well. 6.5

Ebou Adams: A disciplined performance from the midfielder who shut down Norwich where he could and there was one glorious pass in the first half to Osborn that caught the eye. 6

Kenzo Goudmijn: There were some eye-catching moments from the Dutchman but just couldn't get his radar working properly. 5

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing: Played in a central role and had to keep his wits about him in terms of maintaining Derby's organisation. Got in behind Norwich's defence twice but made wrong decisions. 6

David Ozoh: The on-loan Crystal Palace midfielder produced a monstrous run in the first half which caused Norwich a problem. Such an important player to stay fit because he is one player who can handle the ball. 6

Lars-Jorgen Salvesen: The Norwegian had the ball in the back of the net in the first half only for his effort be ruled out for offside. A couple of nice touches. 6

Kayden Jackson (Ozoh 76): Tried to impact the game. 5
