Derby County suffered a gut-wrenching defeat at the hands of Luton Town as two stoppage time goals earned them a 2-1 win at Kenilworth Road.

Derby could have fallen behind early on when Carlton Morris met a superb free-kick from Jordan Clark but just flashed his header wide of the post.

On an awkward pitch, Luton continued to look for a breakthrough with Callum Elder forced to make a superb challenge on Tahith Chong just as he was pulling the trigger.

Jacob Widell Zetterstrom then made a save to deny Chong before Elder made another outstanding block to thwart Jacob Brown after Carlton Morris' cross had made its way to him in the area.

Derby had done their best to create openings, with Jerry Yates flashing a cross into the box but nobody was on hand to capitalise. But right before half-time, Ben Osborn teased a ball to the back post which was a whisker away from being headed in by Adams who had given Chong the slip.

Derby carried much more threat in the second half as Jackson forced a save from Kaminski before Victor Moses made a superb block to deny Kane Wilson a repeat of his goal against Portsmouth last week.

And the breakthrough Derby craved came when Wilson darted down the right and picked out Jackson at the back post and the forward guided a superb header inside the far post. At the other end, Zetterstrom did superbly to deny Morris's header before Kenzo Goudmijn saw Thomas Kaminski tip his effort around the post.

But Luton were level when Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu scored with a deflected strike as his shot cannoned off Tom Holmes and then Carlton Morris struck moments later when his shot hit Curtis Nelson and flew in to seal the points.

Jacob Widell Zetterstrom: Made two excellent saves the second of which to deny Carlton Morris was as good as you'll see. He was cruelly beaten by two deflections. Didn't deserve that. 8

Kane Wilson: Had one or two moments when he produced a lovely bit of skill in the first half and then followed that up with a shot that was blocked in the second half and then he provided the cross for Jackson's goal. In a good vein of form. 7

Curtis Nelson: Strong aerially and had a firm battle with Carlton Morris, a player that Paul Warne knows well. Did his job of keeping Luton to minimal threat in the first half. So unfortunate with the deflection. 7

Nat Phillips: Got booked for a tackle on Victor Moses that was always going to warrant a yellow. But apart from that he stuck to his guns and doesn't mind a good old fashioned scrap. He was excellent. 8

Sonny Bradley: Brought into the team and was made captain for the night. Didn't really do much wrong and just cleared his lines when he had to. Was replaced in the second half. 6

Callum Elder: Made two superb tackles, the second of which on Jacob Brown was an absolute peach and probably stopped Derby going a goal down. Made another similar rescue act in the second half. 7

Ben Osborn: Played at the base of the midfield and was tidy enough and Derby were always competitive in the centre of the pitch. Showed his experience and he is very adept in collecting the ball off the defence. 7

Ebou Adams: Had a great chance at the end of the half when he was a whisker away from meeting an Osborn cross at the back post. Any contact and it was probably a goal. Gave everything. 8

Kenzo Goudmijn: It looked like it was going to be one of those nights for the creative players in the first half, but he was so close to a goal after the break but in fairness it was a good save by the goalkeeper. 7

Kayden Jackson: Didn't really get into the game in the first half but came to life in the second. Saw a shot saved by Kaminski then directed a wonderful header inside the far post. Should do him the power of good. 6.5

Jerry Yates: Showed one delightful touch and put a great ball into the box and he took a couple of bumps and bruises in the first half. Worked so hard for the cause. 6.5
