Derby County have been rocked by the news that academy striker Dajaune Brown is unlikely to play again this season.

The forward needs surgery on a hamstring problem that he sustained in the defeat to Sunderland earlier this month. It is a bitter blow for the youngster who has impressed when featuring off the bench this season.

The injury leaves Derby with a strikeforce of Lars-Jorgen Salvesen and Jerry Yates, while Conor Washington is working his way back from injury. James Collins has departed on a permanent deal to Lincoln City and Brown's injury may now lead to Derby chasing a striker before the transfer window closes.

Asked if Brown would play again this season and whether it facilitates the need for another striker in the window, Warne said: "No I don't think so (play against this season), no. Dajaune is going to have an operation on his hamstring so he is going to be out for a period.

"There was another need for a striker before that, but it does add to the need, yes."

Brown has made 18 appearances this season and scored two goals, one which came in a 1-1 draw with Hull City. His next goal came in a 1-1 draw against Leyton Orient in the FA Cup, a game in which Derby lost on penalties.
