Danish midfielder Oscar Fraulo looks set to stay with FC Utrecht amid claims Derby County were aiming to land him on loan this month.

Reports in the Netherlands claim Derby wanted Fraulo, who has struggled to nail down a first-team place in recent weeks. Since the beginning of December, he has played just 42 minutes, having initially started seven games in the autumn.

The player is owned by Borussia Monchengladbach who had sent him on loan to Utrecht to help further his development. But the German club are reportedly not pleased with how his loan has worked out sparking speculation over his future with Fraulo having made 13 appearances this season.

But according to Voetbal International, he now looks set to stay with Utrecht for the rest of the season which has pleased manager Ron Jans.

Derby have been eager to bolster their midfield options this month with Middlesbrough's Dan Barlaser also a serious target. However, they face competition from Championship rivals Blackburn whose form has stuttered in recent weeks.

Head coach Paul Warne is eager to add a creative midfield player to join Kenzo Goudmijn as he looks to improve Derby's goal threat in a number of positions with the club currently in the bottom three of the Championship.

A winger is also chief among Derby's priorities with the club having missed out on Louie Barry with the Aston Villa talent set to be confirmed as a Hull City player in the next 24 hours.

Derby have made two signings so far this month with striker Lars-Jorgen Salvesen the first to arrive from Viking FK while Matt Clarke signed yesterday from Middlesbrough with the centre-back penning a permanent deal until the end of the season.

Derby do have the luxury of adding another loan player to the group having sent Tawanda Chirewa back to Wolves after an underwhelming stint at Pride Park.
