Dick Campbell in X-rated touchline meltdown as East Fife boss held back from linesman in furious red card rage
Dick Campbell had to be physically restrained after seeing red in East Fife's 1-0 defeat to Elgin City on Saturday.
The Fifers had the chance to go seven points clear of nearest challengers Peterhead at the League Two summit but fell short at Borough Briggs, with Kyle Girvan scoring the only goal after just 10 minutes to move Elgin within eight points of the East Fife. And after charismatic veteran boss Campbell was given his marching orders by referee Daniel Graves after continuing to remonstrate with the match officials, the former Arbroath manager had to be escorted down the tunnel where he continued to tear into the fourth official.
Speaking after the game, Campbell admitted his team got what they deserved. He said: "Any game you play, you gave got to earn the right to win., and we never started the game. All credit to Elgin, they needed to beat us to keep themselves in the frame. They did that well. I thought 1-0 flattered us and we did not compete all over the pitch, like we have been doing.

"The goal that they got was very, very poor from my perspective. Our two boys could have attacked it and they didn't but the boy (Girvan) took it well."
After leaving Arbroath in November 2023, Campbell, 71, took up the reins at the Bayview Stadium last summer. The Dunfermline native has excellent pedigree in the SPFL, having previously led the Red Licthies to the League Two title in 2017 and the League One title two years later.
Campbell also lifted the League Two title with Brechin City back in 2002 and also guided Partick Thistle and Forfar Athletic up through the play-offs from the third tier. His lengthy career in management in Scottish football started way back in 1987 with Cowdenbeath.
