Ruben Amorim hasn't picked a recognised striker in Manchester United's starting team to face Crystal Palace in the Premier League because he wants to "try different things".

United progressed to the last 16 of the Europa League after beating FCSB in Bucharest on Thursday and Amorim will be hopeful his side can win a fourth game on the bounce.

Andre Onana, Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro, Manuel Ugarte, Alejandro Garnacho and Amad have been recalled to the starting team to face Crystal Palace and Amorim has decided to play without a recognised striker, which means Amad is expected to operate through the middle.

Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have been named on the bench. The two strikers have scored just 11 goals between them in all competitions this season and United are expected to sign a new striker at the end of the campaign.

When Amorim was asked about playing without a natural striker, he told MUTV: "It's more understanding the opponent, understanding our team, what we feel that is missing in this moment.

"And then create a different reference for the opponent, especially when you play a game that is system against system and it is a clear game of duels. We will try to do different things to create more chances"

Amorim has made six changes in total and added: "You need to run a lot in every game and we have different competitions, so the opponent is different, so you try to manage the players.

"It's really important [to have a winning sequence] and it should be a normal thing for a club like ours. We want to continue to win, we need to improve our performance, especially at home, and have to play well.

"They [Palace] are a team who are really comfortable playing away. So we are prepared for a team who has a lot of quality, pace and who is really good at second balls, and can control the tempo."

United signed Zirkzee from Bologna for £36.5million last summer but the Dutchman has scored just four goals this term and has looked more suited to playing in a deeper position.

Although Hojlund enjoyed a decent debut campaign after signing from Atalanta in a deal worth up to £72m in the summer of 2023, he has regressed this season and struggled for form.
