'Different version' of Aaron Morley has returned to Bolton Wanderers - Ian Evatt
AARON Morley goes straight back into the Wanderers squad to face Exeter City today as a “different version” of the player who left for Wycombe in September.
The midfielder, recalled from a successful loan at Adams Park in the first half of the campaign, trained with his old team-mates for the first time yesterday morning before they travelled to the South Coast.
He scored a winning goal from the penalty spot against Exeter on New Year’s Day in his final game for Wycombe but Bolton rejected an offer to extend his stay and have now registered him with the EFL to play this afternoon.
Ian Evatt, who is keen to see his side respond from a disappointing defeat at Mansfield which dropped them to 10th in the table, admits Morley’s return has been a welcome boost.
“It is like a new signing, a bit of freshness for the group. It is great he already knows what we do and how we do it, so we don’t have to spend that time with him,” he said.
“I can already see how much more confident he is, confident in his body, he looks fitter and sharper and I am excited to see what he can do.”
Wycombe have not ruled out making another offer for Morley and have also lost defender Caleb Taylor – who spent time at Bolton last season – after his return to West Brom.
What happens over the next few weeks could very well determine the 24-year-old’s next move but, in the short-term, Evatt is looking forward to working with a player who has rediscovered his top form again.
The manager said: “He has done well down there and got from the loan exactly what we wanted him to get which was confidence, fitness and he has come back and I can already see a different version to the one that left. When he first came he was full of confidence, really affecting the team, really dynamic, and I think he will be the first to admit that he lost his way a little bit.
“Sometimes these loans can reinvigorate you. He has trained really well and he’s still the same lad, we think a lot of him. It was never a loan to exit him, it was one to get him what he needed to get back in our team.
“From what I have seen he has done well (at Wycombe) and I am sure he will do really well for us now for the remainder of the season.”
Wanderers are looking to sign new players this month but Evatt says there has not been any progress since the Mansfield game.
“We have made two offers for players but as it stands neither have been accepted,” he said. “We will continue to pursue it as long as we feel it is of value to us.”
The club are also weighing up the next moves for Dan Nlundulu, who is at Cambridge United on loan, and Nelson Khumbeni, who is at Accrington.
Evatt says loan and permanent offers have been received for both players but an extension to their current loan has not been ruled out.
