Dimitri Van den Bergh HIT with phone as World Darts Masters punter selfie request goes agonisingly wrong
Dimitri Van den Bergh had a close look at an eye-phone after he was hit in a selfie request gone wrong.
The Belgian star was celebrating with his fans after beating Nathan Aspinall and inviting punters to chuck their devices onto the stage so he could take shots as souvenirs. However, as one phone was lobbed up to him, Van den Bergh misjudged the juggle and catch and it hit him in the face.
Unperturbed, the title contender didn’t deny his faithful fan the cherished snap and took the picture before returning the phone with a bit more panache. Van den Bergh was thrilled with his darts win and, ahead of Finals Night, was going to dive into some fast-food chicken after a Peri good display.

He said: “I’ve had to struggle and battle with an injury for the last 18 months, which is a year and a half. If you know this and you look to what I’ve achieved last year, I’ve had a good year, I’ll take it on board and this year I’m allowed to play without any pain. I’m living life and enjoying life. I know that my little girl is saying, come on, daddy. That’s awesome.
“The draw was out. Me and Gary Anderson in the first game of the main tournament. Once again, if I win, it should have been MVG, which happened. I’m taking the positives. It’s going well. I’m doing good things and, for some reason, it’s going in my favour. Everything is going my way at the minute.”
Van den Bergh faces Jonny Clayton for a Final place and continued: “I just want to have a bit of food. I love Nando’s. I love chicken. So my friends are going to go and get me some food, take out. And it’s all about making sure that I relax and it’s about building up the energy again, because we all know it’s going to be a long night if it goes my way.”
