Diogo Jota has handed Liverpool an injury boost after Arne Slot confirmed he will return to training on Friday. The Portuguese has been sidelined with a muscle injury since the Reds’ 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest earlier this month, but after missing their last four matches, is now closing in on a comeback.

The Dutchman also revealed that Joe Gomez and Darwin Nunez are also training with the group. The England international took part in open training earlier this week, having missed the last month with a hamstring injury.

Meanwhile, the Uruguayan was part of the travelling squad for Wednesday’s 3-2 loss to PSV Eindhoven, but was not included in the matchday squad against the Dutch outfit because of illness.

But despite the trio being scheduled to take part in training on Friday, Slot was keeping his cards close to his chest regarding whether Jota, Gomez or Nunez could be involved for Saturday’s trip to AFC Bournemouth.

"All three of them are in training today,” Slot confirmed. “So then the question is are they already far enough to join us towards Bournemouth.

“That is something we have to wait and see today because we probably have more than 20 players available.

“We always have more than 20 available but the ones that are mostly there. So we have to make the smartest decision for them but also for winning the game tomorrow."

Should the trio be back available against the Cherries, it would leave Curtis Jones as Liverpool’s only injury doubt after the midfielder limped off at half-time against Lille earlier this month.

Having left 12 senior players at home and made nine changes to his side to face PSV Eindhoven, Slot is expected to ring the changes once again as the Reds return to Premier League action.
