Diogo Jota has described captaining Liverpool in Saturday's 4-0 FA Cup win over Accrington Stanley as a "special moment".

In the absence of captain Virgil van Dijk for the third-round clash, Trent Alexander-Arnold wore the armband from the off on Saturday afternoon at Anfield.

But when Alexander-Arnold was replaced by Conor Bradley just after the hour mark, Alexander-Arnold passed the armband to the Wataru Endo.

However, when the Japan international was substituted for Jayden Danns late in the second half, Jota was presented with the captain's armband for the first time since signing for Liverpool in September 2020.

Writing on social media after the game, Jota, who scored the Reds' opening goal at Anfield, said: "A special moment wearing the LFC armband at Anfield for the 1st time. Moving forward in the FA Cup."

Saturday's game was only Jota's second start since he suffered a rib injury against Chelsea at the end of October.

The Portugal international marked his return to action by helping the Reds salvage a 2-2 draw against Fulham last month.

After that, he made five substitute appearances for Arne Slot's side before he was handed a first start in three months during the League Cup semi-final first-leg defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.

And on Saturday, Jota broke the deadlock in the first half before Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jayden Danns and Federico Chiesa added their names to the scoresheet to seal a comprehensive 4-0 win and book Liverpool's place in the fourth round.

"Obviously in the beginning they believe they can come here and do something (with) one or two set-pieces," Jota said of the game as a whole.

"Dangerous," he added of Accrington. "We ended up scoring in a transition of one.

"(It's) always important to get that first goal and I think in the end we did our job; clean sheet, four goals and most importantly the next round."
