Diogo Jota's cheeky Liverpool contract message to Trent Alexander-Arnold speaks volumes
Liverpool fans will no doubt agree with Diogo Jota’s choice for a Christmas gift for Trent Alexander-Arnold.
With the big day just around the corner, the Reds have been getting into the Christmas spirit as they prepare for their game against Tottenham later. Arne Slot’s team can go into the festive season with their place at the top of the Premier League secure with a victory in north London.
That would of course be the perfect Christmas present for Liverpool fans, but what about the players?

The Reds’ stars have been picking their ideal gifts for their teammates as part of feature with Sky Sports ahead of today’s game. Having picked Alexander-Arnold’s name out of the hat, Jota came up with the perfect response.
“What would I buy Trent?” he mused, before responding: “A paper. And a pen, so he can sign his contract.”
Liverpool fans will be in full agreement with Jota’s cheeky suggestion, although Alexander-Arnold might not be too thankful to his teammate, with the Reds vice-captain insisting his contract saga will not play out in public.
Fears are growing among supporters that a move to Real Madrid may be in the offing for the 26-year-old, especially with his good friend Jude Bellingham already at the Bernabeu.
As things stand, Alexander-Arnold’s current contract at Anfield is set to expire at the end of the season, and he will be able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club from next month unless he signs a new deal before the end of 2024.
He has been offered a new contract by the club, along with Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, although no official update has yet been given on any of the trio’s plans, with recent reports even suggesting that Van Dijk could join Alexander-Arnold in making the move to Madrid.
Liverpool.com says: Very cheeky from Jota, although it does show exactly what Alexander-Arnold’s teammates think of his current situation. Clearly, they’re eager for him to stay, although chances are the right-back will make the decision on his own.
With every passing day, it does feel like he might be destined to make the move to Madrid. Only time will tell, but hopefully his love for his hometown club will help him make his mind up soon.
