Dire Mebude completes loan move to German club one year on from Bristol City spell
Former Bristol City loanee Dire Mebude has completed a surprise loan move to German club Hamburger SV, a year after he joined Liam Manning's Robins.
The ex-Manchester City youth prospect joined the Reds on transfer deadline day last January, becoming Manning's second loan addition of the winter window after Scott Twine had also made the move to the West Country on a temporary basis.
In his six-month stay at Ashton Gate, the 20-year-old made just three Championship appearances, all of which came off of the bench as he failed to hit the heights expected of him in a City shirt. His last game for the Reds came in the 1-0 defeat to Cardiff City before he spent the final 10 league games of the campaign rooted to the substitute bench.

Mebude returned to Belgian club KVC Westerlo in the summer and has been in and out of their side in the first half of the campaign. In total, the winger has scored and assisted twice in 19 appearances in all competitions as Westerlo look to dodge relegation from the Jupiler Pro League.
However, Timmy Simons' side will be without the former Robins loanee for the remainder of their fight against relegation. Mebude will instead be plying his trade in the German second tier with HSV, who currently sit at the top of 2. Bundesliga as they look to win promotion back to the top flight.
Having struggled to impact proceedings in the Championship last January, the 20-year-old is, this time, focused on helping Hamburg build on their impressive start to the season and help them return to the Bundesliga.
"I’m absolutely delighted to be part of HSV and to be able to call this stadium – which I can barely find the words for – my home," Mebude explained. "When HSV come asking, you don’t say no."
"I want to get my teammates into the game and give the fans something to cheer – that’s what it’s all about. That and helping HSV achieve their number one goal. I want to play my part and will give my absolute best."
The former Bristol City winger could make his debut for his new club this weekend when Hamburg welcome Hannover 96 to Volksparkstadion on Sunday afternoon. Although Mebude's side currently top the table, only four points separate first and seventh in the 2. Bundesliga standings so there is plenty to play for between now and the end of the 20-year-old's loan spell.
