Dodger Stadium concessions workers have voted to authorize a strike, just a week before the 2022 MLB All-Star Game is set to take place in Los Angeles. Ninety-nine percent of Dodger Stadium workers voted to authorize the strike, which could now happen at anytime — including just before the stadium opens its doors to baseball fans from around the world.

According to a statement viewed by Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times, Unite Here Local 11 represents over 1,500 “food servers, bartenders, suite attendants, cooks and dishwashers at Dodger Stadium.” All of those concessions workers are employees of Levy Restaurants, which handles all the concessions for Dodgers home games.

Susan Minato, co-president of Unite Here Local 11, told the LA Times that "many" concessions workers have trouble providing even basic necessities for themselves and their families.

The labor provided by the workers is the key component in any union contract fight. Without the workers, nothing gets done. And All-Star week would be quite the time for nothing to get done. Dodger Stadium will host the Futures Game, the annual Legends & Celebrities Softball Game, the Home Run Derby and the All-Star Game as part of the All-Star festivities, and without the stadium workers, none of those events would have hot dogs, soda, beer, nachos, and countless other ballpark delicacies.

Unite Here Local 11, on behalf of Dodger Stadium concessions workers, tweeted in support of the MLBPA during the lockout that happened this past winter.

MLBPA released a statement of support for Unite Here Local 11 on Monday afternoon.
