Steve Evans hailed Rotherham’s ‘best home performance of the season’ as they beat Wanderers at the New York Stadium.

Evans, who had been hoping to build on the recent displays against Lincoln and Huddersfield, felt his side “took it up a notch” against the Whites.

The Millers boss argued that the final scoreline “didn’t do it justice” after John McAtee’s late consolation.

“You get wins if you get the right performances,” he told the club channels. “I thought Lincoln was arguably our best performance of the season and probably longer than that.

“We built on that against Huddersfield and then arguably another quality side in Bolton. But 3-1 doesn’t do it justice today, it could have been a lot more.

“Given the quality of opposition, the performance against Reading was very good and Huddersfield at home, but today we took it up a notch even further.

“We pressed with high intensity, played some good, flowing football and that created chances. If you make chances, we like to think we are going to take a percentage of them.

“Maybe on another day, a couple of our strikers have a couple of goals more each.”

Rotherham have now taken eight points from their last four games and are up to 13th place – six points behind Bolton.

Evans was also quizzed about potential incomings as the Millers aim to keep climbing the League One table.

“The one thing every manager gets at this club, it doesn’t matter if it’s me or the previous two or three guys, you get the support from a fantastic chairman and board. It doesn’t always get seen," he added.

“I was talking to Ian Evatt before the game, it doesn’t always get seen what the contribution is.

“It’s millions and millions of pounds that gets invested into this club and they are working incredibly hard behind the scenes, giving us permission to – in our opinion – make the group better.

“It doesn’t mean we are going to sign a star. We are not the club in League One for stars – that belongs at Birmingham, Wrexham and Hollywood, Bolton, Charlton and Wycombe now with their billionaire owner.

“We are a club that wants value for money but we want people to wear the shirt with pride.”
