On-loan Liverpool defender Calum Scanlon is facing another extended spell on the sidelines after suffering a suspected hamstring injury with Millwall. Scanlon, who is on loan at the Championship side for the season, was forced off after just 17 minutes of the 1-0 win at Luton Town on Saturday.

The 19-year-old left-sided player had only returned to action the previous week having missed almost four months with a stress fracture of the back sustained after making his debut for the Lions in the home game against Luton back in September.

“It doesn't look good,” said Millwall boss Alex Neil. “Calum’s had to come off. I think it’s a hamstring injury. We need to get it scanned and get the extent of it."

Scanlon's injury concerns have limited him to just four appearances for the London side, although he scored the first goal of his professional career during the 2-2 Championship draw at home to Cardiff City last Tuesday.

The teenager, who was brought to Liverpool from Birmingham City as a 15-year-old in February 2021, made his Reds debut in October 2023 from the bench in the Europa League home win over Toulouse and also featured as a substitute in the defeat at Union Saint-Gilloise two months later. He has twice been in a Premier League matchday squad.

Scanlon missed the closing months of last season having suffered an initial back problem.
