'Domination first and foremost'- How Burnley saw the win over Coventry City
Scott Parker called his Burnley side's victory over Coventry City a dominant display as he lauded CJ Egan-Riley's "immense" contribution to Burnley's superb start to the season.
The young defender scored in their 2-0 victory against the Sky Blues with the 21 year old, who joined from Manchester City in 2022 and spent time on loan at both Hibernian and Jong PSV.
In his 12th successive start he netted his first goal for the club late in the game, a shot that seemed to be a misguided cross which sailed over Brad Collins and into the net.

After the match, Parker, whose team boasts one of the best defensive records this campaign with only six goals conceded and sits second in the Championship standings, commented on the goal: "I think it was a cross to be fair to him."
He continued to praise the youngster: "I’m pleased for CJ, he’s been immense since he’s come in, a young boy who’s probably not had a lot of opportunities since he’s been at the club, and deserved that goal tonight."
The Clarets coach recognised Egan-Riley as pivotal to the team's defensive solidity: "He’s been the backbone, a driving force with the back four, back five with the goalkeeper, and also the team, in terms of the clean sheets and defensive work of this team. " Parker concluded by applauding CJ's well-earned chance and success: "CJ has brought a lot of quality, he deserves his opportunity and he’s taken it with both hands. I’m really pleased for him."
Burnley secured their third consecutive victory after a second-half breakthrough against Coventry, with Connor Roberts setting up the goal that Sarmiento converted despite Collins' touch. The team held firm against Coventry's attempts to equalise, including an offside effort from substitute Ephron Mason-Clark, before Egan-Riley sealed the win.
Manager Parker praised his side's commitment to clean sheets as "absolutely incredible" and was pleased with the performance, saying: "Domination first and foremost, and then second half, nudge our way in, get a good goal at a good time, evidence of the work we’ve been doing, the goal comes from that, and then CJ’s first goal as well."
He added, "We were well worthy of the three points tonight. I thought overall it was all-round a very good performance."
Burnley's win propelled them into the automatic-promotion spots, just two points shy of leaders Sheffield United. Meanwhile, 17th-placed Coventry, who are just above the relegation zone, faced their first defeat under interim boss Rhys Carr amidst reports of advanced talks with Frank Lampard following Mark Robins' departure.
Carr, having previously managed draws with Sunderland and Sheffield United, commented on the managerial uncertainty, saying: "The day-by-day line I’ve used is the same line really. " He added, "If we end up going into the Cardiff game (at home on Saturday), we’ll prepare for it, looking at their strengths and weaknesses, how we can hurt them and defend against them, and approach the game in the best way we can."
