Ibrahima Konate returns for Liverpool as the Premier League leaders are visited by Manchester United on Sunday afternoon. The France international has been sidelined since a knee injury picked up in the closing stages of the 2-0 win over Real Madrid on November 27 but returned to team training this week.

And with Joe Gomez set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring problem in the 5-0 win at West Ham United on December 29, Arne Slot has opted against selecting Jarell Quansah in his place and named Konate alongside captain Virgil van Dijk.

Dominik Szoboszlai misses out entirely through illness as Curtis Jones starts as the most advanced of the three midfielders ahead of Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch. Harvey Elliott and Wataru Endo will provide cover off the bench for the engine room.

Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez are on the bench as Luis Diaz starts once more down the middle of the Reds' three-pronged attack. Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo begin the game on the right and the left, respectively.

Federico Chiesa returns to the squad after missing the last three games due to fitness concerns. The Italian featured as a substitute in the 2-1 win at Southampton in the Carabao Cup quarter-final on December 18 but has been absent ever since.

Conor Bradley is also fit enough to form part of the match-day squad too for the first time since the win against Real Madrid. The Northern Ireland right-back was injured in that victory over the La Liga champions but is on the bench for the visit of Ruben Amorim's struggling United.

The build-up to this game on Sunday was plagued with uncertainty after Liverpool City Council's Ground Safety Advisory Group met at 9am to discuss whether or not to allow the fixture to go ahead due to the snowy conditions around the region. The clash was eventually confirmed as being on after a second meeting at midday.

Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Jones, Gakpo; Diaz.

Subs: Kelleher, Elliott, Chiesa, Jota, Nunez, Tsimikas, Endo, Quansah, Bradley.
