Dorchester Sports continued their charge for the Dorset Premier League title with a 9-1 thrashing over Poole Borough.

Knowing goal difference could prove vital come the end of the season, Sports added to their 7-0 win over Wimborne Town Reserves with another clinical display in front of goal.

Sports did not disappoint the home faithful as they came racing out of the blocks with a period of early and sustained pressure.

Poole keeper Jakub Lewiarz made one of the saves of the season to deny Sports captain Alex Godfrey an early goal, tipping over from close range.

Joel Hewitt was looking to add to last weeks first half hat trick and he did it again in fine style.

Poole could not deal with the movement of Godfrey and his 20 yard pass found Hewitt who slotted past the away keeper to open the scoring.

Lewiarz was beaten again soon after as Godfrey set Dylan Ellis to smash in his sixth of the campaign.

It was now one way traffic and Elliott Browne scored for the second week in a row as his 30 yard strike found the bottom corner.

Godfrey then made the pass of the game finding Hewitt to complete his brace, whilst Liam O'Shaughnessy also found the net to make it 4-0.

Godfrey then had a 20 yard shot well saved but Dan Sheehy was on hand to tap in the rebound and Hewitt completed his hat trick just before half time when Browne crossed for him to tap home.

Poole come out in the second half and made it a lot more difficult for Sports to get in behind and create chances.

But the did add an eighth goal when Hewitt got his fourth of the afternoon.

Poole pulled one back from a free Kick before Derek Walls long throw found the returning Kriss Radivojsa to complete the rout.

Speaking after the game, Sports manager Ashley James said: "We played some brilliant football, some of the best this season.

"The movement at times was brilliant. We needed to get our goal difference up so this was a massive day for us".

Sports next is against title rivals Bournemouth Sports in what could be a season defining match for both sides.

As Bournemouth have several games in hand against Dorchester, it will be a crucial tie to decide where the league title will end up this season.

With that in mind, James hopes the team will be full of belief as they head into the game at Chapel Gate on Saturday.

He added: "I hope these last two games will give us a massive confidence boost going into the big game against Bournemouth Sports on Saturday - it really is a big big game."
